Our client is a Tier One Principal Contractor operating at the forefront of the UK rail industry, delivering complex, multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects across Network Rail and other rail clients. With a strong pipeline of work across enhancement, renewals and major frameworks, they are seeking an experienced Civils CRE to provide engineering leadership and technical assurance across rail projects.

About the Role: The CRE is accountable for the technical compliance, safety and engineering integrity of all allocated civil engineering works. Acting as the primary technical authority for civils, the CRE ensures that designs, construction methodologies, and delivered works comply with relevant standards, legislation, and client requirements. The role requires close collaboration with Design, Construction, Temporary works, and Assurance teams, and acts as the key interface with the Clients Responsible Engineer (CEM/CRE)

Role & Responsibilities

  • Act as the CRE (Civils) in accordance with Network rail standards, NR/L2/INI/02009, and the company’s engineering management system.
  • Take overall responsibility for the technical acceptability and safety of civil engineering works on assigned projects
  • Ensure all designs, calculations and specifications are produced, reviewed and approved by appropriately competent engineers.
  • Verify that construction activities are delivered in line with approved designs, standards, and safe systems of work.
  • Lead and manage the civils design process, including coordination with internal and external designers
  • Review and approve design deliverables, ensuring compliance with relevant standards (Eurocodes, Network rail standards, BS EN)
  • Provide technical input into construction methodologies, sequencing, and buildability reviews
  • Support resolution of technical queries, non-conformances and design changes
  • Champion a strong safety culture, ensuring engineering risks are identified, mitigated and clearly communicated
  • Ensure compliance with CDM regulations, including support to the principal contractor and principal designer duties where required
  • participate in audits, technical reviews, and assurance activities
  • ensure robust control of temporary works, working closely with the temporary works coordinator/engineer

Essential Skills

  • Charted or working towards chartership (CEng or IEng preferred)
  • Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Strong working knowledge of Network rail standards and governance
  • Proven experience delivering civil engineering works in a live rail environment
  • Excellent understanding of engineering assurance, risk management, and compliance
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
